- Avoiding high energy costs during the summer months when your home is vacant.
- Reduce the risk of mold and mildew developing in your absence.
A programmable thermostat can help you avoid mildew and high bills
One way to help prevent mold and mildew from developing in your vacant home is to control the relative humidity inside. You can accomplish this and still manage your energy costs by using a programmable thermostat to run your air conditioner at 70° for just four hours each morning and at 88° the rest of the time.
Have a dehumidifier or dehumidistat installed for those days or months that you are away, is one way of preventing damaging humidity levels entering your home and saving money on energy bills by running your air conditioning system with a dehumidistat instead of the thermostat that reads temperature settings.
You must consult with our technicians to wire both dehumidistat and thermostat to a set-up that would suit you best. For example, there is a parallel wiring that we believe is the best and easiest operation method to understand.
Dehumidistat & Thermostat settings
If your units are wired in parallel then you should set the dehumidistat to 58% Relative humidity and your Thermostat set to fan auto, a/c to cool and raise your temperature setting to 88 degrees, this settings will have the humidistat controling the system. When relative humidity in the home reaches 58% the air conditioning system will start cooling and removing humidity from the home. (this settings are recommended by Florida Power & Light)
