Types of filters
1" filters should be changed monthly or bimonthly, every home is different and should be judged upon the condition of the filter. However, the media filters are tipically changed every 6-12 months.
Most homes or business heating and air conditioning
systems have the 1" factory slot filter width that comes standard with air handlers or return registers.
This is typical as it is the minimum requirement to protect the cooling and heating coils as well as the blower fan from the amount of dust particles entering the system. However, these filters do very little to remove
contaminants from the air and the amount of dust particles it witholds. Another typical related problem with these 1" filters is the carton frame rigidity as it does not maintain a rigid tight frame to prevent air bypassing the filter and to worsen the problem different manufactures produce sizing that does not fit properly, we found most customers tend to force it in or buy a smaller size, either method results in poor filtering of dust, and contaminent particles.
What is MERV Rating?
Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value, commonly known as MERV Rating is a measurement scale designed in 1987 by the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) to rate the effectiveness of air filters.
The scale is designed to represent the worst case performance of a filter when dealing with particles in the range of 0.3 to 10 microns. The MERV rating is from 1 to 16. Higher MERV ratings correspond to a greater percentage of particles captured on each pass.

During flu season and throughout the year families are exposed to viruses that circulate in the air they breathe indoors, so taking every measure to prevent illness makes good sense.
Proven results
A Harvard-led study recently proved that American Standard AccuClean™ removes over 99% of the common flu, or influenza A virus, from the filtered air in your home.
Influenza viruses are spread from person-to-person in respiratory droplets of coughs or sneezes. So AccuClean’s™ ability to reduce the average airborne concentration of the virus in your home’s re-circulated air makes it a very effective flu defense researchers concluded.
